CCOM Graduates Celebrate Upcoming Residency Matches

Students set to complete residencies in several states

Graduating students from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) participate in the national residency match program every year. The match marks the transition from their time in academia to residency programs all over the country in clinics, healthcare facilities, and hospitals. The students discovered their matches on March 15, 2024, and they look forward to the next chapter of their careers.

CCOM Matches by the Numbers:

  • Total matched students: 192 (97.4% placement)
  • Number of Illinois matches: 83
  • Highest specialty matches: Family Medicine (31), Internal Medicine (48), Emergency Medicine (24)
  • Number of military matches: 11
  • Highest system matches: Advocate Health Care (29), Franciscan Health Olympia Fields (7), Rush University Med Center (7)
  • Top state matches (out of 34 states): Illinois (83), Michigan (10), Indiana (8), New York (9)

Where did you match to?: 

Areej: Medical College of Wisconsin, Psychiatry

Zoe: Rush University Medical Center

 

Describe your reaction when you found out you matched: 

Areej: I think I was just shocked. I didn't think it would happen for me. And then I spent the rest of the day in a daze oscillating between being excited and thankful to Allah for the opportunity.

Zoe: Ecstatic and excited for the next chapter with amazing faculty and co-residents.

 

How did your education at ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ prepare you for this opportunity?: 

Areej: The clinical rotations available for psychiatry here really helped shape both my passion and understanding of psychiatry. I met two of my greatest psychiatric role models through the school's rotation sites.

Zoe: The variety of rotation sides really set me up to work with many residency programs and explore all the opportunities.

 

What do you look forward to in this upcoming experience?:  

Areej: It's a whole new life, I just hope that I give it the time, respect, and work ethic it deserves. I want to be someone my patients can depend on, so we just keep swimming until we get there.

Zoe: To learn from knowledgeable faculty co-residents and to train at a state-of-the-art hospital.
