AZCOM Graduates Discover Residency Match Destinations
Students graduating from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2024 were thrilled to find where they will be embarking on the next level of their professional development after receiving the results of the National Residency Match on March 15th.
Each year, AZCOM students are part of the national residency match program, which encompasses osteopathic and allopathic students nationwide who are on the cusp of commencement. The match marks the students鈥 transition from their didactic and preclinical work on the 九色视频 campus and off-site rotation experiences to residency programs in real-world hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities. The residency match process can result in graduates practicing close to home or at far-flung locations, with various specialty choices available.
This year, AZCOM marked the largest Family Medicine match in the program鈥檚 history, as well as the first time in eight years that Family Medicine matches represented the largest percentage among all matched specialties. Of those students who participated in the match, 98.8% were successfully placed 鈥 31% of whom will be remaining in Arizona for their residency, which helps address the state鈥檚 shortage of healthcare providers. Students matched to programs in 34 states, and 15 students matched to military residencies.
Whether the match result is expected or a surprise, graduating students are certainly excited for the next stage of their careers. Ashley Jackson (AZCOM 鈥24) joined her classmates at the Glendale Campus Wellness and Recreation Hall at 9:00am for the ceremonial opening of their match envelopes. She was thrilled to discover that she had matched to Family Medicine 鈥 Obstetrics at St. Joseph鈥檚 Health Hospital in Syracuse, New York. 鈥淚 am very excited,鈥 she said. 鈥淢y whole family is there. I was born and raised there, and I was actually delivered at this hospital by a St. Joseph鈥檚 Family Medicine 鈥 OB doctor鈥 it really is full-circle for me!鈥
